Plastic Surgery Demands Increase This Holiday Season

The holidays can bring on all sorts of stress. Seeing family members, holiday parties, or traveling tend to cause us to think about our appearance more than normally would.

Another reason for undergoing such procedures during the holiday season, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery says: It's the only time of the year when some patients can take a week or two off from job or school for post-surgical healing.

Nose jobs, eyelid surgery, Botox, and facelifts are all popular procedures during the holidays. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve, plastic surgeries spike about 25% because everyone wants to look their best for the holidays.

A huge trend that has started over the past few years has been the notion of gifting plastic surgery to others. It doesn’t have to be some extravagant surgery, it can be just a simple Botox or facial procedure. There has been an increase in recent years of people shopping for facial rejuvenation treatments for family and friends.

Speaking of friends and family, all of us at Star Plastic Surgery would like to wish you and your family Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.

Artificial Sweeteners vs. Sugar

With the holidays coming up, the concern of sugar and sweeteners and how they affect us become more relevant. Holiday treats are a common occurrence and the harmful effects are always in the back of our mind soon after consumption.

An analysis of randomized controlled trials, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2013, found that sugar-sweetened beverages alone cause body weight to go up in adults. In comparison, an analysis of randomized controlled trials of artificial sweeteners published in the same journal found that their use led to lower body weight and less overall fat.

The facts are there and the first step is to limit the amount of sugar consumed per week in order to prevent any health issues caused by an abundance of sugar. Everyone always says “feel great about the way you look”, and the first step in feeling that way is to just be healthy. If that isn’t doing the trick, there is always the option of plastic surgery on those areas you feel insecure about. Visit our website at www.starplasticsurgery.net to learn more.

How to Avoid the “Turkey Neck”

The holidays always tend to be a time where people start to worry about their appearance most. You begin to see family and friends you wouldn’t normally see and you want to look your best.

Unfortunately, gravity, genetics, sun exposure, and lifestyle choices tend to cause the tissues in your face to dry out, wrinkle, and sag over time. By removing excess fat and lifting the tissues and muscles in your face, our board certified plastic surgeons can use a face-lift to address problems such as “Turkey Neck”.

Star Plastic Surgery offers a wide variety of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. Our Face-lift is one of our more popular ones that will make you look years younger and enhance your facial features and self-esteem.

Postpone Early Retirement with Plastic Surgery

“Whether you’re a woman or a man who wants to turn back the clock on aging, plastic surgery and non-surgical procedures such as injections and fat grafts are becoming a top anti-retirement expense,” (Erin E. Arvedlund, 2015).

It has become a common fear among professionals that they will be let go from a job because they are too old or do not appear as pleasant as they once were. Many baby boomers are having work done to stay competitive in the workplace because we live in an ageist world.

Face-lifts, tummy tucks, eyelid lifts, and BOTOX have all become very common plastic surgery procedures for those trying to fight off retirement. You should never feel insecure about how you look, let alone when it concerns your profession. People in their 80s are asking for appointments for plastic surgery in order to keep working and keep up with the younger generations.

Star Plastic Surgery in Novi, Michigan offers many of these procedures including face lifts, eye lid surgery, breast augmentations, breast lifts, rhinoplasty’s, liposuction, and many others that can help prolong your feeling of security in the workplace.

Is There a Difference Between Men and Women?

There has always been a debate about the differences between men and women. However, in recent years the focus has been on medications and the effects on men vs. women.

“We all go to doctors. And we do so with trust and blind faith that the test they are ordering and the medications they're prescribing are based upon evidence -evidence that's designed to help us. However, the reality is that that hasn't always been the case for everyone. What if I told you that the medical science discovered over the past century has been based on only half the population?” – Alyson McGregor from Ted Talks

Some of the notable facts from McGregor’s Ted Talk are:
  • ·         80% of drugs taken off the market were removed because of side effects on women.
  • ·         Every cell has a sex. Sex is DNA, gender is how someone presents themselves in society.
  • ·         Drugs approved and released to market have been tested only on male patients, leading to improper dosing and unacceptable side effects for women.

At Star Plastic Surgery, we offer a full range of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. Men and women in the Detroit, Michigan area, as well as from around the world, have trusted our board-certified plastic surgeons for both surgical and nonsurgical procedures.
