Reduce Your Chances of Serious Drug Reactions

reduce chances of serious drug reactions
In recent years there has been an increase in genetic testing that can help avoid some of the serious drug reactions that take place throughout the United States every year. The tests that occur can determine how people might respond to common medications. These common medications can help some patients but harm others because some people absorb these drugs at a faster pace, while others process these at a slower rate.
Tiny differences in our genes that regular enzymes are the reason for this. Everyone is different and so are our bodies. The fact that everyone’s bodies absorb medications differently shows that everyone can be affected by anything differently. Take plastic surgery for instance, everyone’s bodies are different and they need to see a board certified plastic surgeon in person in order to get an understanding of what they really need.
Majority of hospitals are including information in patient records to help guide the doctor into choosing the most useful drugs and proper amount of dosages for patients moving forward. There is no recommended use, everyone is different and deserves to be evaluated in that way.
Star Plastic Surgery is your source for superior Michigan plastic surgery, focused on your safety, comfort, and satisfaction. Our board certified plastic surgeons are happy to meet with you during a free consultation to see what specific needs you have. Please call 248-735-3800 to schedule a free confidential consultation or visit our website www.starplasticsurgery.net

What Is Your Reason for Getting Plastic Surgery?

·         It’s Not Always About Insecurity
-          Don’t make these assumptions about people because assuming this will more than likely cause them to be more insecure.

·         It May Be an Artistic Expression
-          People do things for many reasons and sometimes it is for artistic purposes. It can be because they are looking to express themselves and plastic surgery was the route that they felt most comfortable in.

·         Medical Reasoning
-          Those that seek out plastic surgery for medical reasons are usually looking to for health reasons. Procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentations, breast lifts, or even a rhinoplasty are utilized to help prevent health issues.

·         We All Participate in Body Modification
-  Whether it’s putting makeup on or getting a haircut, we all modify our physical appearance in some way. Those of you who decide to go with plastic surgery just take body modifications one step further. Getting an injection of Botox is almost the same as putting on makeup.

·         Personal Choices Should Be Respected
-          As humans, we should have a general respect for others and their own personal choices. We all pass each other on the streets and it is important to remain respectful so we can maintain a peaceful culture.

·         Self-Love Comes in Different Forms
-          The main goal is to just feel good about the way you look. This often comes from different sources. Some people like to travel, eat, exercise, and in the case, get plastic surgery. An important fact to remember is to make sure they are board-certified.

At Star Plastic Surgery we welcome anyone who is looking to improve themselves. Whether it is medical, insecurity, artistic, or any other reason why they want to have a body modification done. Experts Are Finding New Ways to Fight Bacteria

Doctors have been fighting bacteria with antibiotics for years and for the most part they have had great success. In recent years though, these diseases have been growing resistant to traditional medicine. In the 1940's, Western doctors stopped using phage because of the advent of antibiotics.

Experts have turned to phages once again instead of modern medicine. If you don’t know, phage therapy comes in different shapes and sizes and is the therapeutic use of bacteriophages to treat pathogenic bacterial infections. To read more about this please visit this link. The White House last year stated that phage therapy will be one of the options when combating drug-resistant bacteria.

At Star Plastic Surgery, we are aware of all medical options on the market and currently we are not utilizing phages of any kind. However, we do take pride in keeping up with ever changing medical breakthroughs and the latest technology. Our board certified plastic surgeons want you to feel great about the way you look and strive to deliver safe and outstanding results.

Don’t Be Another Statistic, Do It Right The First Time

There has been a rise in recent years of people traveling to get major surgeries performed. When it comes to a large medical expense, we all try and take shortcuts to find a cheaper price. Sometimes this includes going to a different country which is often known as “medical tourism”.

Every major surgery has risks involved but by going to a different country your risk or something going wrong increases. When you have medical work done in a different country you have no legal protection and chances are you will not be dealing with a board-certified plastic surgeon or who knows, maybe it’s not even a real doctor.

Don’t get caught up with price or you could be another statistic like this common headline, “19 Americans infected during plastic surgery trips” (NBC News). Of course this is just one example of something going wrong overseas with surgery, but even just one example is a good reason to be cautious.  Bargain surgery may not really be a bargain. This is your body and I doubt you want to risk a tummy tuck or nose job going wrong just to save a few dollars. Additional cost for revision surgeries and complications may cost you whatever the difference was if you had it done in the United States.

At Star Plastic Surgery, in Novi, Michigan, our board-certified plastic surgeons have performed over15, 000 cosmetic procedures. To schedule your free consultation here in the United States, please call 248-735-3800 or visit us at www.starplasticsurgery.net/contact-us.

Is There a Difference Between Men and Women?

There has always been a debate about the differences between men and women. However, in recent years the focus has been on medications and the effects on men vs. women.

“We all go to doctors. And we do so with trust and blind faith that the test they are ordering and the medications they're prescribing are based upon evidence -evidence that's designed to help us. However, the reality is that that hasn't always been the case for everyone. What if I told you that the medical science discovered over the past century has been based on only half the population?” – Alyson McGregor from Ted Talks

Some of the notable facts from McGregor’s Ted Talk are:
  • ·         80% of drugs taken off the market were removed because of side effects on women.
  • ·         Every cell has a sex. Sex is DNA, gender is how someone presents themselves in society.
  • ·         Drugs approved and released to market have been tested only on male patients, leading to improper dosing and unacceptable side effects for women.

At Star Plastic Surgery, we offer a full range of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. Men and women in the Detroit, Michigan area, as well as from around the world, have trusted our board-certified plastic surgeons for both surgical and nonsurgical procedures.

Scientist Find Gene That Causes Obesity

People have always wondered, “What makes me fat”?  Scientist have finally figured out a gene that ties people to obesity. Scientist have known about a gene called FTO, but now they have discovered a faulty gene that causes energy from food to be stored as fat instead of being burned.

The scientist, who were from MIT and Harvard, found a way to reverse these affects. What many people don’t know is that obesity is partially caused by how our fat cells get used. To read more about these new gene glitch, go here and read more about it!

I read this article about autism and thought about many of our patients who have children that are affected by this. A study was published in the journal Current Biology that talked about how odors are used to gauge emotions in others and are a form of social communication. Children with autism participated in this study and it was discovered that they had profoundly altered sniff responses. To read more about the study and the results please read the article here.

A Drop of Blood Could Tell You Your Infection History

I was reading this article about the new technology being developed by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The researchers are using a new method called VirScan, which runs diagnostics to test for specific viruses current and past. All it needs is a single drop of blood in order to run its analysis. To read more about VirScan and the progress the HHMI is doing, view this article

The Medical Future: Transplanting Heads

I read this article about Dr. Sergio Canavero  and his plan to put the head of Valery Spiridonov, a Russian with a muscle-wasting disease, on the body of a newly dead donor. I always find articles about the advancement in medicine very interesting and I love sharing this news with all of our readers. Canavero claimed to of solved the problems his hero, Dr. Robert White, when he got a monkey’s head to live (briefly) on a new body (that couldn’t move). Canavero now says he and a team of 150 will be able to swap out an entire human body by 2017. To read more about this story, please visit this online article

Even though it seems like science fiction, the progress of medicine is developing at an exponential rate. This is evident in the new technologies coming out in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. 3D imaging is allowing us to have the ability to create an actual mold for the patient. We are now seeing great leaps in the development of bio-compatible implants for cosmetic refinement and integration. The development of stem cell research is enabling physicians to harvest and amplify our own tissues. The future may bring procedures and results that we can't even imagine today.

Skinny Jean Lovers Beware

I found this very interesting and thought you would enjoy reading about this. Please be careful with your fashion choices!

Anyone who has ever had to do acrobatic's in order to fit into a pair of skinny jeans may want to loosen up. One woman from Australia learned the hard way, that prolonged periods of “external compression” can result in muscular and neurological consequences. She was walking down the street when her feet went numb. After being taken to the hospital, the staff had to cut off her jeans. You can read more about the skinny jean story by clicking here.

You can never be too careful when it comes to your health. That’s why at Star Plastic Surgery, we take all of the precautions necessary to make sure you have the best experience possible in a safe environment.

Shopping for jeans should be treated the same as where you choose to go for cosmetic surgery. You shouldn’t have to force yourself into a pair that is going to put you in harm’s way, you should get a pair that fits you perfectly. The same can be said for where you go for cosmetic surgery.

The philosophy of our practice is focused on the patient. We work one-on-one with you, both pre- and post-operatively to help you reach your goals. We do not have a one-size-fits-all mentality, and will customize your procedure to enhance your natural appearance, and help restore the self-confidence you deserve. Look 10 to 15 Years Younger

As you age, your skin loses elasticity. Combined with lifestyle choices, stress, and sleeping habits, this can eventually lead to a puffy, baggy appearance around your eyes. In addition to making you look much older before your time, exhausted eyelids can impact vision, making it both an aesthetic and functional issue. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can restore a youthful, bright appearance to your eyes and restore vision diminished by droopy eyelids.

The board-certified plastic surgeons at Star Plastic Surgery understand how these issues can impact your self-esteem and lower your self-confidence. Using only proven surgical techniques, our Novi, Michigan eyelid surgeons can help you look and feel your absolute best.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, gets rid of extra skin and fat from your upper and/or lower eyelids. During the free pre-surgical consultation, you will be examined and asked about your vision, tear production, and use of lenses. Factors that affect your surgery include age, skin type, ethnic background, and degree of vision obstruction. These are all important when it comes to the doctor figuring out exactly what you need.

For more information about blepharoplasty, please visit our website www.starplasticsurgery.net to schedule your free consultation.

Americans Spend $12.9 Billion on Cosmetic Surgery

Now it’s more important than ever to consider cosmetic surgery. In 2014, $12.9 billion total was spent on cosmetic procedures in the U.S., with the number of cosmetic surgery procedures down 12% since 2000 and minimally invasive procedures up 154% (American Society of Plastic Surgeons).

The primary reasons people say they decided on cosmetic surgery were to improve their self-esteem and to build their self-confidence. The physical benefits of cosmetic surgery may be obvious to the eye, but it is the emotional results of cosmetic surgery that many times provide patients with greater rewards.

If you’ve been bothered about the way you look, due to a flaw such as a nose that you may feel is too large or wrinkles that may make you feel older, cosmetic surgery can make you feel better about yourself. While many may feel that plastic surgery is not the answer to poor self-esteem, if you feel that there is an area that needs to be modified, it can be a solution to your better emotional wellness.

WARNING: You must be very careful when it comes to cosmetic surgery. Many issues are happening in the world of plastic surgery and below is a link to an article you may want to read that describes deadly butt injections.

If the Shoe Fits, Go with a Star Plastic Surgery Surgeon

Many women are very particular when it comes to selecting a pair of shoes. The rate of injuries for U.S. women associated with wearing high heels form 2002 to 2012 was 7.32 per 100,000, with most injuries consisting of sprains and strains to the foot and ankle (Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery). Like selecting a pair of shoes, you must also be selective when it comes to who your physician is.

Many physicians perform numerous surgeries throughout the year but it takes a real master to specialize in one specific field. Something you may not know is that many physicians who perform cosmetic surgery are not actually plastic surgeons.

The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) is the only board approved by the National Board of Medical Specialties. Members are certified based on the highest standards and have done more than just take a weekend course in cosmetic surgery. Before choosing your surgeon, review the doctors overall experience and training, and most importantly their board-certifications as well as hospital privileges to perform the surgery that you are considering.

The plastic surgeons at Star Plastic Surgery have completed the necessary residencies and fellowships in order to become the experts that they are. Cosmetic Surgery is all we do and our physicians pride themselves on concentrating on the individual they are working with. Before you decide to get plastic surgery done, please make sure that you are working with an ABPS board-certified plastic surgeon. Having the training and expertise to create the best possible outcome is more than just throwing on a mask and a white coat.

Please visit our website for a free consultation from one of our board-certified plastic surgeons: http://www.starplasticsurgery.net/contact-us or call us at 248-735-3800
